MyTerms Launch

John C Havens:

Congratulations on IEEE 7012-2025 standard for terms on dealings

Joyce Searls:

[shows danish video of a shop assistant demanding personal information before she will sell them cakes]

Doc Searls:

What we saw is a clash of 2 worlds - they physical versus the digital - we have privacey tech in the physical world like clothing and doors, it's tacit, it's nto written down

in the digital world we don't have privacy - signing a consent form means nothing - we have no tacit privacy

MyTerms hack is that it's a contract, except that the individual is the first party, and the terms are published at a non-profit

If you have an agreement both sides have an identical copy - you can keep a record of non-agreement too

we have some terms already defined https://myterms.info/agreements/ - one is service delivery only; one is an ongoing relationship

then we have one time personal data contributions - AI trainign and ops; Data for Good projects; Sharing Intent Data

Christopher Wilson:

making these agreements and making them visible matters for making markets viable and reasonable

consumers take part in many contracts without any awareness, much better to have an actual agreement

what we want is a future that is controlled by the individual - a world in which data exchange is a fair handshake, no a hidden transaction

John Bruce:

imagine that you are no longer clicking through consent forms, your data wallet is managin t for you. in 2020 when you visit a webiste, your chosen terms are delivered automatically to the website by MyTerms

that legal agreement is integrated into your SoLiD data wallet, and when the agreement is made the legal terms and technica definitions are the same

The moment you leave the site, your agreement expires as it has an end date built into the agreement. You can see each one and their access

This transformation rests on MyTerms as the legal framework and SoLiD provides the technical infrastructure to keep your data in your wallet under your conditions

The internet is transformed - not becuse companies become trustworthy by because trust is automatic

Jamie Smith:

we had a wave of Ai that was classifying; we're now in a wave of generative AI. Next is AI that does something for you - an AI Agent

These agents will provide new kinds of interactivity online. Cookies ware a quick hack that has since been weaponised

Agentic technlology is all about delegation - so we need terms for that delegation to happen unde r our own terms - hence MyTerms

Dan Leninger:

at point of purchase Bob has chosen a pan and set terms; 3 companies accept them and he picks on to dleiver

Tristra Newyear Yeager:

it's still not easy for a creator to know their audience - the internet was supposed to make this easy, but intermediaries have proliferated online

creating workaround for the intermrdiaries has hisotriacally been collecting emails, and using them to get round the silos

We're about to meet the first MyTerms artists who use agreement to drive their art

John Abbott:

we already have troubles today with age verification - we want to make sure you are in control of your data, and to revoke it

A future with MyTerms is good fo consumers and children - currently terms vary by the comapny that implements them, standardising should help fix this
